INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS FOR ADMISSION ON BUSINESS COUNSEL LICENSE

Give specific answers to each part of all questions. Do not leave any question blank. If the question is not applicable or information is not available, so state in the appropriate blank. Please do not use "n/a".

When using additional sheets to supplement answers, give the information in the same manner as called for in the application.

Steps for Submitting Application

1. Complete National Conference of Bar Examiners’ character and fitness questionnaire (application). Please note the application is to be completed and submitted online at this website. Do not print the application and mail it to the Indiana Board of Law Examiners.

2. Pay filing fee of $875 to Indiana Board of Law Examiners via credit card or electronic check and file application.

3. Upload supporting documentation by clicking the red “Upload New Document” button on the right side of the page in a section called “Uploaded Documents”. Note that this option appears only after completing Step 2.

Required documentation includes:

  • Completed and notarized “Motion for Admission” executed by an active member of the Indiana Bar. The Indiana attorney is the “movant” and he/she is to fill in their county of admission. The remainder of the upper half of the document refers to the applicant – his/her current address, etc. The lower portion of the motion is to remain blank. The motion must be uploaded immediately upon submission of application.

  • Completed “Statement of Required Practice” form. This form must be uploaded immediately upon submission of application.

  • Completed and notarized Affidavit in Support of Application. This affidavit must be uploaded immediately upon submission of application.

  • Supplemental documentation for matters disclosed in application as needed.

4. Complete and sign authorization and release form (Standard NCBE – Single A & R) and email it to intake@ncbex.org

Miscellaneous Information - National Conference of Bar Examiners will complete an investigation and report back to the Indiana Board of Law Examiners. This investigation can take several months to complete. Processing time depends in part on how quickly applicant’s references and others named in the application respond to NCBE inquiries. Allow approximately six (6) months for the processing of application. Give complete and correct dates on your application to avoid delays. Advise the Board of Law Examiners and the National Conference immediately of any name or address changes.
